I wouldn’t say that any subject is too controversial for the magazine, necessarily. It all depends on how it’s handled. A thoughtful, well-reasoned examination of a controversial topic could potentially be appropriate for the magazine, whereas an offensive story or one that is simply in poor taste would not be. Everything comes down to execution. That said, subjects such as rape, abuse, and the like are rarely handled well. I’m not interested in stories that are racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise terrible.
